Centre has lots of little-known treasures to discover. Here is a quick review of the best places to stay in, and what to do.


Places of interest

  • Tours and Blois are must-sees for their chateaux. Amogst Centre's architectural legacy, Chenonceau, Chambord and Azay-le-Rideau are just outstanding.
  • Other Chateaux definitely worth a visit are Amboise, Langeais, Cheverny, Valençay... Many other chateaux are equally really nice but little-known.
  • If you love Gothic monuments, just go to Chartres and gaze at Notre-Dame cathedral. It is referenced in the Unesco World legacy list.

Also to discover

  • Museums

    The big cities of the region offer nice museums as in Orléans, Tours, Chartres and Bourges. If you like Balzac and Rabelais, you can find their dedicated musuems in two villages of the region.

  • Architecture

    If you prefer to walk in medieval street, Chartres is the right place to be. You could also go to Loches which is a former Royal City.

  • Nature

    Nature lovers can discover the Loire Valley by boat or walk on the bridge over a canal in Briare. Local vineyards, amongst the most famous in France will welcome you to taste a Sancerrois or Touraine wine. Just come and give it a try!
