Lower Normandy Economy, Unemployment and Jobs

In the last decade, the economy of the French region Lower Normandy has known a general increase.

Lower Normandy can be described as:

  • The first agricultural region , especially concerning butter production, cheese or apples for cider.
  • The first region concerning the number of horses, with 12% of the total for France.
  • The 4th region for car industry.

Nevertheless some branches of the regions economy (such as industry, property building or tourism) have had problems with providing new jobs or even with keeping pre-existing employment.

But on the whole, the general economic trend of the Lower Normandy region is quite similar to the economic situation of France.


Lower Normandy has an unemployment rate of 6.5%.
