Poitou-Charentes Food & Gastronomy

The Poitou-Charentes Food and Gastronomy traditions are very lively and visiting the French region is thus not only a pleasure for the eyes but also for the palate. The little-known departments of Deux-Sèvres and Vienne produce great goat cheeses, butter (the world renowned Butter from Echiré) and a stuffing paté called Farci Poitevin. The famous Tourteau Fromagé local cheesecake is also a must-taste - trust us, your taste buds will definitely ask for more!

The Poitevin regional cuisine also places great emphasis upon seafood. In Poitou-Charentes restaurants you can often find mussels on the menu, either marinated in white wine or cooked in heavy cream (the famous Mouclade). Poitou Charentes has so many culinary treasures (fish, cheeses, meat, confections, drinks, wine) that brotherhoods even exist to protect and promote the traditional production methods. Thus we will not list them all but will make you discover the most renowned ones that exemplify very well the quality and authenticity of Poitou Charente's traditional produce.
