Nord-Pas-de-Calais Beer

The local beer is obviously called Bière du Nord (Beer from the North) by most Frenchmen and is renowned in France. It is used in many local traditional recipes and accompanies local dishes brilliantly.


Several Nord-Pas-de-Calais beers have received awards for their taste and quality. They are true local, traditionally-made quality products. Some examples of these excellent Nord-Pas-de-Calais products can be found below.

  • The "Grain d'Orge" (barley grain) beer

It is produced by a local small Brewery called Joan of Arc. Its taste is very particular, with a "smoked" powerful aroma. It is a great beer of France that has its original roots in the flemish soils. It obtained the gold medal in the world beer competition in Colorado, USA.

  • The "Ch'Ti" beer

This beer is full of flavour, soft and harmonious. Its aroma is pretty refined and delicate. This French beer received a regional award for its quality. "Ch'ti" is the name given to the Nord-Pas-de-Calais inhabitants in the local dialect, it has obviously given its name to this traditional beer.

  • The "Septante-5" beer

This Nord-Pas-de-Calais beer has also received a regional award for its quality. It is made from fines hops and boasts a caramel flavour that is wonderful and gives it an orange colour.

  • The "Saint-Poloise" beer

This is a light ale, golden beer very typical from France. Its flavour is really gentle but frank at the same time. It is made in the ancient way by the Saint-Poloise Brewery.

Other famous beers in Nord-Pas-de-Calais are the "3 Monts" beer, Ambre des Flandres, Belzebuth, Bière de Garde, Pot Flamand, Goudale and Angelus beers... Many of these beers received awards for their quality from French institutions or from the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France.
