Upper Normandy Travel by Sea

Upper Normandy is an amazing touristic region. You may want to go there for the beautiful countryside, the rich French culture, the deep historical roots or even just for the long sandy beaches. But whatever the reason of your stay, it is important to first plan out how to get there.

A number of ferry companies sail between the United Kingdom and ports in Normandy. Brittany Ferries travels between Caen (Ouistreham) and Portsmouth and between Poole/ Portsmouth and Cherbourg. The Dieppe-Newhaven route is covered by a daily service from Transmanche.

With nearly 100 million metric tonnes of merchandise processed each year, the ports in Le Havre and Rouen are the top maritime port of entry in Europe’s northwest. For the region, the issue is as maritime as it is rail-related: the attractiveness of the two ports must be enhanced while ensuring a better balance between roads and rails for the transportation of merchandise.
